Upon Meth’s Door
The Southern Temple1 Excavation
In search of cheap intoxicationScoured the Wadi2 high and lowBut found no place where they could go.
The Forum’s3 prices were a fright,And the other bars were closed up tight. So the team was rather soreWhen they showed up upon Meth’s4 door.
He too was closing for the night,But when presented with their plightHe smiled and said he’d acquiesceAnd welcome them to be his guests
“But,” said he, “on one condition-You see, I have a noble mission:I have a spirit, cool and clear,That’s superior to wine or beer.”
“A liquor not known in the West,But that I maintain, is far the best.I don’t like people to go backUntil they’ve sampled some Arak.”
And so the team in search of booze,Knew they really couldn’t loose-For the choice that they were asked to faceWas between Arak and a hard place.
